It was not who you expected to lead the Mavericks to another
win Tuesday night. Dirk Nowitzki was off on his game with 15 points and six
rebounds. Josh Howard was out for the birth of his first child. That left
Austin Coshere who had a career-high 34 points and seven rebounds. Dallas beat
Seattle 122-102 stretching their home winning streak to 14 games. Dallas is two
wins shy of the franchise record for consecutive home wins, set last season.
Kobe Bryant asked NBA commissioner David Stern to convene an
immediate appeal hearing on his one-game suspension. The league turned down his
request, meaning Bryant had to sit out the Los Angeles Lakers' game against the
Knicks at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night. He wasn't paid for the game.
Bryant was suspended for elbowing.

The Stars did in the Sharks 3-2 Tuesday night and will face
the Sharks again Thursday night. Marty Turco made 15 saves as Dallas rallied
from a two-goal deficit in the third period. Mike Modano didn't score in his
return to the Stars lineup after missing 23 games since early December with
injuries to his hip and groin.
MLB
Barry Bonds gave the San Francisco Giants the right to
terminate his $15.8 million, one-year contract if he is indicted. The unusual
provision could set off a legal test between the rights in an individual
player's contract and rights under the union's collective bargaining agreement.
The wording was designed by the team to protect itself in case Bonds is charged
in the federal government's steroids investigation.
